Retro Fit Your Existing Cabinets

Bath vanity/bathroom remodeling

Storage space in bathrooms is very precious. Most bathroom vanities do not have any shelving whatsoever. The cavity under the sink was left wide open for the sink installation. Once the sink was installed the home owner is expected to try to make use of this vast wasted space as best as he/she can. At least until now. We are able to custom make pull outs that weave in and out of the plumbing under the sink. We can regain much of the wasted vertical space under your sink. The biggest offenders are the his and her sinks, like the one in the picture. The bottom pull out measures 27 inches wide and 19 inches deep on the bottom shelf. We take it all the way back to the plumbing. The top pull out measures 27 inches by 15 inches.  Those are both big trays! You’ll be amazed at what you can get in them. And the best part is that you can access all these items without being on your knees.

Cabinets that are 11 inches wide or narrower are one of the most frustrating places in the kitchen. They are so narrow and deep that you never know what is in the back of them. Some poeple have some success by cramming cookie sheets and brownie pans on their sides and closing the door as quickly as possible. Retrieving the pan you want is an equal challenge. You normally have to pull out most of the pans that are in this cabinet to find the one you want.

Riser shelf/creative storage solutions for the kitchen

Utility

The riser shelf can be used in both kitchens and bathrooms. Normally the space on either side of your sink is wasted. We size the riser so that it fits between the plumbing and the side of the cabinet. This small shelf is great for all those items that normally clutter up the area around the sink. Scrub brushes, scratch pads, soap dispensers, toothpaste, tooth brushes, etc. The riser itself is attached to a single height pull out on the bottom with a support board. So when they are pulled out, they come out together as one unit. The height of the riser makes it easy to reach. You don’t even have to bend over. So we’ve taken an area that is at the heart of the kitchen or bathroom and changed it from one of the least desireable places to store something to one of the most accessible.

Slotted Pull-out

Aging in place/accessibility in the kitchen

If you have ever wondered if there was a better system for accessing and storing your pots, pans and/or personal items, there is hope!!!  We can take your existing cabinets and convert them into highly functioning storage spaces by designing custom pull-outs for them.  As the baby boomers grow older, they tend to get frustrated with all the bending, kneeling and reaching that is required to retrieve their pots and pans out of their base cabinets.  If you have ever had the pleasure of using pull out shelving, it is very difficult to go without them.  I’ve had baby boomers tell me that they have started to enjoy their kitchen again after retrofitting their kitchen with pull outs.  The ease of access to their cooking utensils has greatly reduced the stress of food preparation in their lives.  If you know that it is going to be an archaeological dig to retrieve the crock pot from the corner cabinet, you’re likely not going to make the attempt.  Your quality of life is being sacrificed by the lack of accessibility your kitchen has to offer.

Our EZ Gliders with full extension rails, allow you to pull out the trays into the light of day.  The drawer comes within an inch or two of coming all the way out of the opening.  You are no longer groping in the darkness of the cabinet while kneeling on a very hard surface to reach things.  There is no more guessing as to where you have stored something.   You are standing up straight and looking down into the drawer instead of bending or kneeling down on the floor.

The accessibility also makes it easier to stay organized.   How many times have you organized your cabinets only to find that they will be disorganized a couple of weeks later?  The main reason is that you need to unload most of your cabinet to find what you are looking for.  After rummaging several times through a cabinet to cook a meal, you become less attentive in putting everything back in its place.

Converting your existing cabinets is a great investment.  The cost to add new cabinets to your kitchen today, are sky high.  In many cases, homeowners have a hard time justifying new cabinets when the main problem with their existing cabinets is functionality and accessibility.  They still look good and have a lot of useful life left in them.  When you consider how many times you use your cabinets, a moderate investment in retrofitting your old cabinets makes sense.  Especially if it will help you stay comfortably, in your home, for a few more years.

Pantry solutions/home improvements in the kitchen

Converting the kitchen pantry to pull out shelves is by far the best investment you can make in the kitchen. Most pantries are narrow and deep. We price our pull outs on width, not depth.  So these pull outs are a very good buy for the money. Installation is normally not that much of a challenge, so this keeps the labor costs down.  My customers tell me that before they put in pull outs, they really only used the front of the shelf because it was simply too much work to get to the rear of the pantry. When they did venture to the back of the pantry they learned that they had things in there that they never realized they had. Most of the can goods were beyond their expiration dates. Once we install “full extension” pull outs, the back of the pull out comes within an inch or two of coming all the way out of the cabinet. Now everything is right there in front of you, in the bright of day. No bending, reaching, or restacking required. Another benefit of pull outs in a pantry is the extra space you can sometimes gain. Most people will leave four or five inches of room above the tallest items so they can reach over the top,to the rear of the pantry. You no longer need that space after you install a pull out because you no longer have to reach over anything. So if you have five shelves in your pantry and you previously were wasting five inches on each one, you now have an additional 25 inches of storage space to utilize.  View the picture below and you can see that this customer could have easily added another pull out in the lower portion of the pantry by compressing the second and third levels closer together.

Since EZ Gliders are custom made, we can make any depth that you want. I normally like to have at least one or two pull outs that are at least five inches deep. These deeper drawers are great for anything that is in a bag, like marshmallows or chips. The deeper drawers work well with taller bottles that may be tippy. The placement of the deeper drawers is very important. You need to be able to look down into the drawer to view the contents. Never place the deeper drawers higher than your chest level.
